Our Team

Pastor B, as he is known and loved, is the founder and servant pastor of The Concord Fellowship Church. He leads this congregation by the same conviction that gave it its name: that God is calling a people into concord – harmony and peace – with God, with one another, and with a world that needs a different kind of church. That is not a slogan to him. It is a way of life. He shepherds this fellowship toward a clear vision – servant disciples using their God-given gifts to create a dynamic community of faith and witness – and he holds its core values close. If you sit under his preaching or share coffee with him at the Café Fellowship, you will feel all seven at work – a leader who assumes the best in people, makes room for the stranger, and honors the God in everyone he meets.

Born and raised in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Pastor B carries an ecumenical spirit shaped by an island upbringing and a religious formation braided from Pentecostalism, African Methodism, and Anglicanism. He professed his hope in Christ and was baptized at the Mission Baptist Church in Nassau, where he first tested the call that has carried him across the world. He studied for the ministry and earned degrees from American Baptist College, Vanderbilt University, and Duke University, and completed Clinical Pastoral Education at Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky.

Before planting Concord, he gave fifteen years to congregations that learned to confront the pain of their cities. In Milwaukee, he led a church that hosted a gun buyback removing more than three hundred weapons from the streets and opened its doors as a place to grieve and to challenge the epidemic of gun violence – a witness that reached the national stage when he convened a town hall with a presidential candidate and mothers who had lost children to gunfire. In Huntsville, he deepened a congregation's commitment to local and global missions, to the flourishing of children and youth, and to the work of racial justice across North Alabama. That heart for social impact came with him to Concord, where the young congregation already tithes to the community – supporting ministries for children, neighbors in need, and justice near and far.

Pastor B is, at heart, a man of the wider world. He loves to travel and to engage people across cultures and convictions, and he is a lifelong student of politics who believes the gospel has something to say in the public square. Missions is his passion – he has led ministry trips to Haiti, Malawi, South Africa, and his native Bahamas – and wherever he goes, he carries a love for good conversation and authentic Caribbean cuisine, a taste of home that follows him around the globe. He was inducted into the Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers and the College of Pastoral Leadership at Morehouse College, and his writing appears in The African American Pulpit, The African American Lectionary, and Walk Together Children: Black and Womanist Theologies, Church, and Theological Education.

He is married to La Keisha Wright Butler, Esq., an alumna of Vanderbilt University Law School and New York University School of Law, and together they are the parents of two children, Dahlia and Don, Jr. He invites you to gather with the Concord family, to bring your gifts, and to find your place in a community where everyone belongs and no one has to worry about fitting in.
